I am now in the copy editing stage of my first book and hope to have it going to print very shortly. The working title at present is the “Planning Doctor’s Guide to Gaining Planning Permission” and is very much aimed at explaining the planning system to self-builders, developers and other property professionals who are not au fait with the complexities of the system, in order for them go ahead and progress with their projects.
The differences between permitted development and planning permissions are explained, together with the differing use classes for different types of planning permission. Further to this a user friendly guide on how to prepare an application and how to manage the stresses of an application process are also explained with as many tips as I could muster, based upon a whole range of previous experiences.
Whilst in more complex cases my book always identifies the need to seek professional advice, it does nonetheless identify that the more straightforward types of planning applications do not have to be overly complex and as long as you can be obsessive in the detail of your own project, and forthright in your views on your planning situation, then planning applications do not have to be a daunting undertaking.
The book will be released concurrently with my practices schedule of planning doctor clinics and masterclasses that take place from early autumn through to the end of the year; the intention is to update it on an annual basis to make sure that the most up to date advice is always available.
As such snippets of frequently asked questions which are explained in the book will also be provided in video form on this website over the course of the year.
I hope the book will be an interesting read and it is fair to say that I do not sit on the fence in bringing forward an opinion where that opinion is necessary.
